Winter’s Warmers: A Chili Competition

Winter Ale Competition $33 Beer + Food; $22 Food
The days are short and the nights are long and it is freaking cold all the time, but the Philly Homebrew Club has just what you need to warm up those frozen bones…Homebrew & Chili! Gallons and gallons of mouth watering, spicy, meaty (and vegetarian) chili!
You are hereby formally invited to join the Philadelphia Homebrew Club at their 2nd Annual Winter Warmer’s Chili and Winter Ale Competition. Presale $33 or at the door $38 will get you feeling mighty cozy with unlimited homebrew samples and ample chili tastings offered up by Philly’s hottest homebrewers and coolest chili chefs. $22 dollars gets you chili, but no beer. Judges will be taking their spoons to the chili and dishing out cash and prizes for the top 5 entries, with at least $500 going to first place chili chef. Plenty of parking is available near the union hall.
Are you interested in being one of Philly’s hottest homebrewers or coolest chili chef’s? Only 45 spots for chefs & entering either competition is simple, just visit PhillyHBC.org. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Union’s Widow’s Fund.
Chili Competition Info:
- At least $500 value to First Place. Payouts to the top 5 place chilis will be as follows: 50% of Entry Fees + $125; 30% to 2nd Place; 10% to 3rd Place; 7% to 4th Place; & 3% to 5th Place
- Bring at least two gallons of pre-warmed chili in a hotel pan (chafing dish)
- $25 entry fee includes entry to the competition, glass, t-shirt
- Chips, bowls, & spoons will be provided by the club
- Any additional accompaniments intended for your Chili should be provided by you.

Winter Ales Competition Info: Beer competition is open to BJCP categories 12 (porters), 13 (stouts), 19 (strong ales), 21B & 23 (specialty). Category 21B & 23 entries must have base styles of categories 12, 13, or 19 and must have both base style and special ingredients listed. Any questions? Contact Aimee [email protected].
- 70%/30% Philly Homebrew Outlet Gift Certificates split to first/second place
- $5 per entry
- Two 12oz bottles or one 22oz bottle per entry, 12oz encouraged
- 21b beer must contain spice as per BJCP 21B
- Beers must be delivered to Philly Homebrew Outlet by 5 PM on January 29th
