ABOUT ABOUT

Stop the bus! The Philadelphia Homebrew Club is shutting down American Street for the best block party you’ll go to this year. Our faithful brewers are already hard at work on some autumn brews that will really help ease the pain of saying farewell to the summertime. A drink pass gets you your very own souvenir PHBC tasting glass, and the club will fill it for you all day, to your content. No block party is complete, of course, without some great live music, games and a bouncy castle for the little ones. But wait, aren’t we forgetting something?

Oh, right, the food! Now this is where things get interesting. How does scores of teams, huddled around their grill stations, artfully smoking up their version of the perfect rack of ribs for your judging pleasure sound? Not too bad, right? The owners of Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen have got their plates full this year, finely tuning their new amazing spot, and the Philly Homebrew Club is stepping up to make sure the 7th Annual Rib Off continues to be a lip-smackin’, finger-lickin’ success. You can even join in yourselves, with a chance at some serious prizes and indisputable street cred! Just wrangle up three of your most culinarily inclined friends and check out the details online at www.phillyhbc.org on forming your own team. There will be expert & celebrity judges determining the winners and the crowd will have a voice in selecting the People’s Choice.
But ribs ain’t all we’ll have cooking for ya. Teams will also have the chance to try their hands at the Veggie Quickfire Challenge and an Anything Goes Mac ‘n’ Cheese category. With all the ribs, veggies, mac n cheese, and brews you can handle, what better way could there be to spend a Sunday afternoon? Now that’s how PHBC spells block party!

$30 full admission in advance gets you in with an all you can sample food pass and homemade non-alcoholic refreshments, and endless samples of fall brews. For just food & non-alcoholic drinks, the cost is $15 in advance. Kids under 12 eat and play free. Come early to make sure you get a taste of everything & to watch the chefs compete in the Vegetarian Quick Fire! Tickets are $35 & $20 at the door.

Prior to the event certified judges will be tasting beers for the homebrew competition, with categories for English Brown Ales, Oktoberfest, Pumpkin , and Ciders. The winners will be announced during the festivities and all are welcome to enter, just see the details online at www.phillyhbc.org. In addition to the BJCP competition, all attendees will get a chance to vote on the beers served at the event to award the coveted Crowd Favorite honors! If you'd like to donate a keg of your own to be served at the event for a chance at winning over the crowd, please see the contact info online at www.phillyhbc.org.
