ABOUT ABOUT

About

This is a Backyard BBQ competition, judged according to modified KCBS rules, with a rib and chicken category. Competitors will be given a 10 x 15' space for their rig and prep area (larger space can be arranged if necessary). Cooks should arrive by 6 a.m. to start their fires.

Categories

Ribs or BBQ Chicken: Choose your meat! Philly HBC will provide each team with approximately either 10 racks of pork ribs and/or 40 lbs of chicken for cooking (final amount to be determined as we get closer to the event). You can select which category you wish to participate in during as part of your registration. Teams should plan to arrive at the Crane Arts Parking lot at 6 a.m. to start their fires, set up grills, and get ready for the cooking (no digging pits, please). All entries must be cooked on location over a fire of wood or charcoal—smoker type barbecues are also allowed.

Turn in times: Chicken, 1:00 p.m. Ribs, 1:30 p.m. Sides, 2:00 p.m.

Sides: Competitors must bring a side to accompany their ribs and/or chicken. There are no requirements for the side other than that the amount equal two hotel pans, or 2 gallons. Make a killer kraut? Bring it on!
