Please note that this event is not a KCBS event. This event is using modified KCBS rules.

There are (2) Categories of Competition and Prizes Described Below. 

Ribs or BBQ Chicken: Choose your meat. Philly HBC will provide each team with approximately either 20 racks of pork ribs and/or 40 lbs of chicken for cooking (more or less; final amount to be determined as we get closer to event.) You can select which category  you wish to participate in during as part of your registration.  Teams are allowed to come to the Crane Arts Parking lot at 6 AM to start their fires, set up grills, and get ready for the day (no digging pits, please). Philly HBC will provide all meat to contestants no later than 7:30 AM. You will have until 1 PM to cook your ribs/chicken. At 1:00 PM the judging will commence for Chicken. 1:30 will be the turn-in for Ribs All entries must be cooked on location over a fire of wood or charcoal . (Sorry, you cannot dig a pit.) Smoker type barbecues are also allowed.


Southern-Style Sides: This category is defined as your favorite Southern side dish, though traditional recipes need not apply. Think what pairs well with ribs and bbq--cornbread, collards, mac n' cheese--the sky's the limit! As this is a free-to-enter category, you must bring the ingredients you require and prepare at least a hotel pan or 200 two ounce samples. Dishes can be served cold or kept warm on at grill. Please note whether a dish is vegetarian or vegan-friendly. Judging will start at 2:00 PM and should be in 6 individual sample-size tasting vessels. 

The entry fee per Rib and BBQ team will be: $250. Competitors Must Register Online by Oct. 12th. Registration will not be accepted at the Philadelphia Homebrew Outlet or at club meetings.

General Rules:

·       Each Team can consist of 1-4 participants. Each entry includes paid full admission for up to (4) teammembers. You also have the ability to purchase (2) additional tickets at ½ price. 

  • Each Team can choose to cook ribs, chicken or both.
  • Charcoal or wood only, no gas or electric cooking allowed allowed. Smoker Type BBQs are allowed. 
  • No pit digging (Crane Arts lets us use their lot for this and they will get mad at us).
  • Each team must bring a canopy.
